Why Women's Empowerment?
Inequality prevails between men and women, and we are not able to eliminate it worldwide. The entire notion is built around the notion that men are superior, so they are more capable of making decisions. Male domination is present in different cultures. So, women's empowerment is a continuous process that increases women's ability to change the concept of being subordinate and suppressed.
There is a need to support women in dimensions like education, skill development, economic, personal, communal safety and security, health and sanitation, and social, cultural, and political contexts, which are critical to consider. Experts also emphasized that supporting women in these ways leads to sustainable changes not only in the individual woman but also in the family, the community, the country, and eventually, the whole world.
Too much attention has been given to economic empowerment alone without considering the critical role of the other dimensions, including sociocultural, health, education, and political dynamics. By 2050, women should be empowered to leverage their internal and external resources, live free from discrimination in healthy, sustainable, and safe environments, and enjoy access to quality education and cultural, political, and socioeconomic equality.
Through research, we can develop holistic interventions that address all primary dimensions of women's empowerment. These dimensions should be addressed at the individual, household, and community levels. Technology can help us in this regard.
Society will continue to flourish as long as women evolve to overcome their problems and issues. Poverty elevation can also be possible with the help of this 50 % of the population. If women are not able to empower themselves, there will be bleeding effects in all areas of life, weakening the social fabric.
A dearth of data is available, hampering our attempts to empower women. All the leadership journeys of women leaders are about how we have navigated spaces created by men. So, how do we change these standards and bring more sensitivity and empathy into the system, make it easier, and pave the way for other women? This is the gender conversation that we need to have because women's gender identity is compromised continuously in many cultures.
It is essential to understand the various patterns of gender conditioning in different states and how these patterns can hinder a woman's ability to work. The world has to become more empathetic towards women complainants, particularly those facing domestic violence. Create more empathy and understanding in professional life by creating gender-safe spaces, protection from sexual harassment, improved care facilities, balanced working hours, etc. The continuing evidence of violence against women is a strong indicator that there is an urgent need to work on gender conditioning in the general public.
There is an urgent need to push the government to ensure safe gender spaces in public transportation. Men must introspect and understand their relationship dynamics in the family and their professional lives. This will help them develop empathy, which is expressed in their interpersonal relationships, including workspace relationships.
Many narratives, such as men are better than women, men are stronger, and women are suppressed and subordinate and alike, have shaped the belief systems of most societies and cultural settings. These narratives are unjustifiable and self-centered. Likewise, creed and culture have become hostile towards complete liberty and equality of women.
Equality is an essential component of human rights anywhere in the world. It is needed to improve the lives of all people regardless of race, religion, and gender differences. Authorities need to ensure their participation in all spheres of the economy, eliminate unfair discrimination, and eliminate gender, race, and social inequalities.
Education plays a vital role by providing knowledge about rights and guidance for a better life for women. True empowerment can only be achieved by addressing the root causes of inequality and providing women with the tools to change their circumstances. Education is the most potent tool to achieve this transformation, enabling women to become active agents of change in their own lives and in society at large.
Education and independence are critical tools for women's empowerment. Educated women can break the cycle of social oppression and discrimination. They can challenge societal norms and injustice. They are critical thinkers and aware of their rights. Women can use education to change their circumstances.
Most of the hurdles to women's empowerment are deep-seated in the minds of people in a few areas and places. Women themselves have accepted it as a fact that they are lower class than men because most people consider this in society. Several cultural and social norms have shaped the participation of women in the conventional role of gender. The structure hurdles in the environment, political, economic, and social and, reinforce
gender-based inequity for women in many ways. Gender equality can improve the development of humans and quell being for societies, families, and individuals. Unpaid care work is a significant barrier, preventing more women from joining the workforce and moving to the top of economic pyramids. Meanwhile, women are paid less than men for the same job profile, and men occupy most of the top posts.
Half of the global population is women, and most are unemployed. Most women are unaware that they, too, are eligible for the position that any man enjoys in every sphere of life. the economy of India is weak despite having good human resources
Empowering women legally, politically, educationally, and economically was and will be challenging. It is not going to be an easy task to change the deep-rooted perception that women are dispensable, dependent, and inferior. However, this, too, does not state that change is
implausible. However, with the push towards the right direction. With every effort, this task might be achievable in the long run. The organized approach and needs of the government and law enforcement agencies are primarily focused in the right direction.
